My favorite workout: Pilates
After being a dancer for so many years, I began doing Pilates classes as a way to supplement my ballet training. They are great to help improve flexibility, strength, and tone all at the same time! Did I mention it also creates long, lean muscles?!
Here is one of my favorite YouTuber’s Pilates Channel:
She creates great videos, that are easy to follow but give me a tough workout! She also has a few Pilates Challenge’s (as well as other workout challenges) that I highly recommend! Get a group of friends and do the challenge together!
I love to make smoothies/smoothie bowls as a post workout snack or breakfast! My favorite smoothie recipe is Berry Spinach. Don’t worry you don’t taste the spinach at all! But, it’s a great way to sneak those veggies in! Here is the recipe…
- 1 cup of frozen berries
- 1/2 banana (frozen is better)
- 1 Tbsp of peanut butter
- 1 handful of spinach
- 1/2-3/4 cup almond milk (you can use cow’s milk as well)
Optional: I like to add these sometimes as an extra boost
- 1 Tbsp flaxseed
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 Tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 tsp spirulina
Here’s a picture of the ones my cousin and I made after our morning yoga! You can add any toppings you want! I like to make it fun and add as many as I can (clearly you can see that in the picture lol)!
Some possible topping ideas:
- Fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, etc.)
- Chia seeds
- Flax seeds
- Goji berries
- Sunflower seeds
- Cacao nibs
- Granola (my favorite recipe is here!)
There are so many options, be creative!
I love smoothies! I have one almost every morning for breakfast! I feel like it’s the perfect way to start the day. They are very filling and make me feel good! They are super easy to make, all you really need is a blender and the ingredients. If you don’t have a blender and aren’t sure if you like smoothies yet/want to try one before you buy it, I would go to a smoothie store and try some first! They are sure to have plenty of options to choose from! I was working in Boston for the summer and I’m pretty sure that I hit almost every smoothie shop in the city. Here are some of my favorites:
The smoothie bowl on the left is from 11:11 Health Bar in Newton, MA. I had the Amazonian Bowl, it was so good! The smoothie on the right is from Cocobeet in Boston. I had the Berried Treasure one! They make their smoothies fresh in the morning and bottle them up so they are easy to take with you on-the-go!
I saw this at the Juice Press in Boston. I really liked it and how it encompassed all aspects of health. Health is so much more than just eating the right foods and exercising. It’s about taking care of your body as well as your mental health. Here are some of my favorite self-care ideas here! It’s so important to be balanced and have good overall health in order to be a healthy in individual!
